Postecoglou must axe Porro at half-time v Frankfurt to avoid Tottenham sack
Ange Postecoglou needs to axe Pedro Porro at half-time against Eintracht Frankfurt if he wants to save himself from the sack at Tottenham.
Should Spurs lose against Frankfurt, Daniel Levy is expected to sack Postecoglou.
Therefore, the 59-year-old took a big risk by leaving one Tottenham player on the bench against Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park on Thursday (17 April).
However, this didn’t seem to matter too much as Spurs took the lead after James Maddison won a penalty, which Dominic Solanke converted in the 43rd minute.
Unfortunately, Maddison wasn’t able to finish the first half, with Dejan Kulusevski replacing the midfielder just before the break. However, that shouldn’t be the end of Postecoglou’s changes if he wants to ensure Tottenham hold on and progress.

Postecoglou needs to axe Porro at half-time v Frankfurt
Spurs supporters were not happy when the lineup was announced against Frankfurt, with Djed Spence’s omission one of many decisions which caused frustration.
And after Porro’s first-half performance, Spence should be coming out to replace the Spaniard for the second half in Germany.
Tottenham 2024/25 | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Pedro Porro | 44 | 3 | 7 |
As per Sofascore, while Porro played well defensively, winning 100 per cent of his duels, he was terrible in possession, giving the ball away 12 times and completing just 67 per cent of his passes.
In addition, zero per cent of the right-back’s crosses or long balls were accurate. As a result, Postecoglou needs to think about making a change.
Tottenham need to hold on against Frankfurt
Postecoglou needs his players to hold on against Frankfurt. However, he can play his part by making the necessary changes at the break.
Porro has continually given the ball away in the opening 45 minutes, and if this continues after the break, Spurs could be in trouble. As a result, Spence needs to be introduced, as while they’re ahead for now, Spurs’ lead is narrow, and the second half display needs to be near-flawless.
