Ange Postecoglou has chosen to start the out-of-form Son Heung-min for Tottenham against Hoffenheim on Thursday.

Postecoglou's side suffered their 12th Premier League defeat of the season last time out as they were beaten 3-2 by Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday (19 January), which has left the Australian under serious pressure.

Therefore, it is perhaps more important than ever for the 59-year-old that his side pick up victory in the Europa League at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena on 23 January, especially as his future in North London is expected to hinge on cup competitions.

It is hard not to feel sympathy for Postecoglou, who is without a host of first-team players due to injury, with Pape Matar Sarr the latest to be ruled out ahead of this clash.

However, it is still rather baffling that the Spurs boss has opted to start Son, as confirmed via the club's official X account (23 January).

Son has been in woeful form for Spurs as of late and looks a shadow of his former self.

Therefore, it is a mystery why Postecoglou continues to stand by the South Korean and start him time and time again, especially with Mikey Moore fit and available.

As per Sofascore, Son missed one big chance against Everton and succeded with just 50 per cent of his dribble attempts.

Meanwhile, only 33 per cent of his crosses into the box were accurate while he won just two of the seven ground duels he contested and gave possession away 14 times as he was targetted by the Goodison faithful.

Moore came on late in the match and was able to provide an assist, which many will feel as though was enough to warrant the 17-year-old a start in Germany.

However, Postecoglou has opted for Son, a decision which he could come to regret.
