Micky van de Ven injury twist emerges ahead of Tottenham v Elfsborg

Ange Postecoglou could be set to welcome Micky van de Ven back into his Tottenham squad for the Europa League clash against Elfsborg.

The Netherlands international has been missing since December after being taken off through injury against Chelsea, coinciding with a rough patch of form in North London.

Since picking up an injury, the Lilywhites have lost six while winning just five games, slumping to 15th place in the Premier League.

With a European clash coming up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (30 January), the 23-year-old could be set to make his return.

Paul O Keefe reported on 28 January that the defender is “on course to be included in Thursday’s squad.”

The centre-back has been nothing short of a huge miss since picking up that injury in the London derby after potentially being rushed back from injury.

Despite being forced off against the Blues, van de Ven still put in a positive performance, summing up his importance to Postecoglou’s side.

This saw him maintain a 76 per cent pass accuracy while also winning one tackle and contributing a further six defensive actions in N17 [FotMob].

His last truly positive performance came in North London, as Spurs picked up a 4-1 win over their East London rivals West Ham.

The ex-Wolfsburg man kept up a 91 per cent pass accuracy as he also chipped in with 10 defensive actions while winning three duels.

This all goes to show how important the Dutchman is for Spurs and how he can change their recent poor fortunes once welcomed back into the squad.

A Europa League clash against Elfsborg represents a perfect opportunity to get some minutes, if he is ready to be included in the squad.
