Manor Solomon decision ‘could cause Ange Postecoglou to be sacked’ by Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou looks to be in serious trouble at Tottenham.

Spurs are currently sitting 14th in the Premier League and were recently dumped out of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Therefore, it is no surprise that Postecoglou is under pressure, with Mauricio Pochettino emerging as the favourite to replace the Australian.

Postecoglou needs to turn things around quickly, and a Premier League win against Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (16 February) could begin to help him do just that.

Tottenham are set to be boosted by the return of several players against Ruben Amorim’s side, with Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario expected to start in North London, which will offer fans some sort of belief.

Spurs’ squad has been decimated by injuries this season, with Postecoglou often struggling to name a fully fit, fully functioning team. Therefore, it seems as though he could have used a player like Manor Solomon, especially based on the winger’s form this season.

Tottenham loanee Manor Solomon shining for Leeds United

Postecoglou decided to sanction Solomon’s loan exit in the summer, with the 25-year-old heading to Leeds United for the season.

However, this is a decision which the 59-year-old has been made to regret, with Solomon shining at Elland Road and consequently being tipped to join Leeds in a £10million deal.

The forward scored and provided an assist as Daniel Farke’s Championship table-topping side thrashed Watford 4-0 at Vicarage Road on Tuesday (11 February). As per Sofascore, Solomon completed 100 per cent of his passes, with two of those key, creating two big chances.

In addition, he succeeded with two of his three dribble attempts and worked hard defensively, winning three of his five ground duels and making one interception against the Hornets.

He was also efficient in possession, only giving the ball away six times across the 77 minutes he played, while he also won a foul for his side and provided one accurate cross into the box. After the win against Watford, Solomon now has four goals and five assists in his last nine appearances for the Whites.

Manor Solomon decision to cost Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

While Solomon has been on fire in the Championship, there is no guarantee he would have produced this kind of form in the Premier League.

However, the decision to let him leave still appears a ridiculous one. After joining the club in the summer of 2023, the former Shakhtar Donetsk ace suffered greatly from injury and was hardly offered a kick of the ball in a Spurs shirt.

Therefore, it seems baffling that Postecoglou wasn’t willing to give a forward with Champions League experience the chance to prove himself this season, and with the injuries Spurs have suffered in forward areas, the ex-Celtic boss likely wishes that he could have called on Solomon in recent weeks, as his involvement might have changed the outcome of some matches.

As a result, if he is to be sacked, the decision to loan out Solomon could haunt Postecoglou.
