Lucas Bergvall thrived in a starting role for Tottenham in their 5-0 hammering of Southampton at St Mary's on Sunday evening.

The Young Swede was one of five changes made for Spurs on 15 December, starting in midfield with Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma unavailable for the clash.

Bergvall put in an excellent performance and put any claims over his ability to influence games in the Premier League to bed.

His performance showcased his credentials to play a significant role for Spurs this season.

The 18-year-old played the full 90 against Southampton and played a key role in the sacking of Saints boss Russell Martin with the club releasing a statement on X after the game.

Son Heung-min and James Maddison will take the plaudits for their involvement but the impact of Bergvall shouldn't be overlooked.

According to FotMob, Bergvall recorded an unbelievable 98 per cent pass accuracy from 48 attempted passes. Throughout the entire clash, the teen misplaced just one pass which is an incredible feat.

While the majority of those attempted passes were short to keep the ball moving for Spurs, he also completed both of his long passes on Sunday.

Of the 68 touches he made in the game, only 20 of them weren't first-time attempted passes which proved crucial as Tottenham maintained their intensity in the game.

The Swede recorded a 50 per cent dribble success rate from four attempts and was dispossessed just once by Southampton.

His defensive attributes could do with some work but given his age that is to be expected. He won 100 per cent of his tackles and wasn't dribbled past once but was only successful in four of his nine defensive duels.

Ange Postecoglou will undoubtedly have been impressed with Bergvall's showing and may utilise him more in the Premier League.
