Jamie O’Hara calls out Tottenham player after what he publicly said about his teammates

Tottenham were fortunate to secure a point against Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Spurs travelled to the Stade Louis II on 22 October and were dominated by the hosts for most of the fixture.

Thomas Frank should thank Guglielmo Vicario for pulling off some brilliant saves in the game as the Ligue 1 outfit put the North Londoners under the cosh.

While emotions must’ve certainly been high among the Lilywhites’ squad, they could’ve kept their dissatisfaction inside the dressing room.

Guglielmo Vicario wrong to call out Tottenham teammates after Monaco draw

In his post-match interview, Vicario felt Spurs lacked effort and the right mentality in the 0-0 draw against Monaco, and Jamie O’Hara wasn’t pleased about those comments.

The former midfielder feels the Italian goalkeeper has no right to call out his teammates after the “terrible performance” as he’s been guilty of making mistakes in the past.

While the 29-year-old had one of his best games in between the sticks for the North London outfit, he should’ve left Frank to make those comments.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on 23 October, O’Hara said: “It was a terrible performance. Worse than watching paint dry. It was so bad. I couldn’t believe how poor we were — giving the ball away for fun.”

O’Hara added: “Vicario has come out after the game and said that. He had a great game, fair play to him, but if I were a player, I’d turn around to him and say, ‘Who are you digging out? Where are you when you’re coming for a cross and falling in the back of the net? I’m out there running around.’

“He’s in goal, and he’s had a good game, and fair play to him, he kept us in it. I don’t know if he needs to be coming out and saying stuff like that. That’s the manager’s job. You do your job, keep the ball put out of the back of the net. He’s had plenty of stinkers where players could point the finger at him, and they haven’t. So I think it was a bit harsh, him coming out and saying that.”

Thomas Frank gets it wrong vs Monaco

Lucas Bergvall had one of his worst games for Spurs, with the Sweden international playing as the furthest of the midfield trio and failing to make an impact on either end of the pitch.

Tottenham started Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur alongside the 19-year-old in the middle of the park, but Monaco were easily able to overrun them.

Frank should’ve started Xavi Simons in the number 10 position, as he would’ve undoubtedly created more opportunities for the North London outfit.

Some might say Vicario had every right to criticise the performance, with the goalkeeper earning a Sofascore rating of 10, but he didn’t have to put his teammates under the bus.

The shot-stopper prevented 2.68 goals, made eight saves inside the box, had one high claim, two clearances and seven recoveries.

With 89 per cent successful passes in Spurs’ half, Vicario showed composure in possession, and that’s something he can hopefully build on as the shot-stopper isn’t considered the best with the ball at his feet.
