Guglielmo Vicario shows exactly why Thomas Frank kept faith after dazzling performance in Tottenham victory
Guglielmo Vicario has come under criticism at Tottenham recently, but put in a great display in their 3-0 victory over Slavia Prague on Tuesday.
While many Tottenham players put on a show in the Champions League, the goalkeeper had a performance to be proud of.
It was another clean sheet for the Italian, two within days of each other, as he bounced back from his terrible display against Fulham in style.
Vicario was only booed by Tottenham fans just over a week ago, but against Slavia Prague, the goalkeeper showed exactly why Thomas Frank kept faith in the Italian.

Guglielmo Vicario was excellent against Slavia Prague
While Mohammed Kudus will take the plaudits for his display at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a performance that went under the radar was that of Vicario’s.
According to Fotmob on 9 December, the goalkeeper made five saves against the Czech outfit, as he prevented 1.24 goals.
On top of this, he completed 56 per cent of his passes and won 100 per cent of his aerial and ground duels.
| Guglielmo Vicario’s stats vs Slavia Prague | |
| Minutes | 90 |
| Saves | 5 |
| Goals prevented | 1.24 |
| Aerial duels won | 100% |
| Ground duels won | 100% |
| Passing accuracy | 56% |
As a result, it is clear that Frank’s faith in his number one goalkeeper has paid off.
The Dane could have easily dropped him after his mistake against Fulham, and it could have helped ease the pressure on the manager at a difficult time.
Yet, instead he has stuck by the Italian, and he produced a dazzling performance against Slavia Prague to ensure Spurs picked up another three points, a gamble that has clearly paid off.

What did Vicario say after Tottenham’s victory?
Obviously, Vicario was extremely pleased to come away with both a win and a clean sheet on Tuesday.
The victory once again boosted Spurs’ hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League.
When speaking to TNT Sports on 9 December after the match, the goalkeeper was pleased with the result but believes it could have easily been by a bigger margin.
He said: “We proved what we can do two days before this game. We did well for 60 minutes but we need a bit more composure across 90 minutes.
“I had this feeling that if we were a bit more calm this result could’ve been better, and goal difference is important in this league phase. But we’re still aiming for top eight.
“They had some shots outside the box, they are aggressive, man-to-man all over the pitch. If you miss a pass or don’t win a second ball, we are a bit open. Their game is to open up teams.
“Three good points and we’ll see. Two more games to play in the league phase, next round will be tough against Dortmund.”
