Gary Neville slams Cristian Romero after what he did in Tottenham v Manchester City
Gary Neville has slammed Cristian Romero after he lost a duel with Phil Foden which eventually resulted in Manchester City taking the lead against Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou’s side came into the clash against Pep Guardiola knowing only a win was good enough to keep them in the race for Champions League qualification.
The Argentine defender lost out to Phil Foden before the ball eventually fell to Kevin De Bruyne who put the ball on a plate for Erling Haaland to tap in.
After Pedro Porro brought Jeremy Doku down inside the penalty area, Haaland had a chance to double his tally which he did with aplomb.
Romero’s error for the opener didn’t go down well with Neville who was on co-commentary duty on Sky Sports Main Event (14 May).
He reacted by saying: “Romero loses the 50:50 with Foden, that’s not good enough.”
How did Cristian Romero perform for Tottenham v Manchester City?
Although in the back of some Tottenham fans’ minds, they were hoping for a defeat to stop Arsenal from winning the league, a defeat is still frustrating.
In untypical fashion, Romero lost a duel which eventually caused his side to go 1-0 down which he will be frustrated with.
The Argentine had a positive night with the ball at his feet as he made 48 passes while keeping an accuracy of 92 per cent [FotMob].
He was defensively sound for the most part as he completed two tackles and also made three interceptions and three clearances throughout.
The 26-year-old was also solid in the duel as he won six throughout and maintained a 56 per cent win rate of ground duels.

With that being said it will be an annoyance to Postecoglou and Romero himself that his error cost his team a goal and in the end, the game.
A frustrating night where Spurs will certainly feel they could have done better.
