Frank ‘already has new Tottenham signing’ after events 7,000 miles away

Thomas Frank is expected to be confirmed as the new Tottenham manager in the coming days.

Ange Postecoglou was sacked as Spurs boss on 6 June despite leading his side to the Europa League title, and the Brentford boss faces a tough task to replace him.

Frank’s first job when he arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be incoming transfers, as the squad is desperate for reinforcements.

Bentancur like a new signing for Tottenham

Rodrigo Bentancur could be like a new signing for Frank after enduring a disappointing campaign last time out.

The 27-year-old played 26 Premier League matches out of a possible 38 as injuries and suspensions wreaked havoc on his season.

He notched just two goals as his role was a more defensive one this campaign which restricted his contributions going forward.

However, his performance for Uruguay in the 2-0 World Cup qualifying win against Venezuela suggests that he still has that in his locker.

The Lilywhites star completed 65 of his 72 pass attempts for a 90 per cent success rate and created two chances in the process [Fotmob].

The Spurs ace made nine passes into the final third and bagged an assist to cap off a brilliant performance for his country.

In terms of his defensive contribution, Bentancur made 16 ball recoveries and two interceptions despite his attacking prowess, showing both sides to his game.

For context, Bentancur has averaged a pass-completion rate of 88 per cent over the past 12 months [FBref].

That places him among the top 20 of midfielders from clubs Europe’s top five leagues in all competitions in that category.

Frank can get the best out of Bentancur for Tottenham

The Uruguay star can clearly still cut in and Frank could unleash him in a more advanced role once he gets the right personnel through the door at Hotspur Way.

Postecoglou was forced to utilise him in a more defensive role, but now the Australian is gone, hopefully the injuries will go with him as his training methods were often exacerbating the situation.

There has been speculation that Bentancur could leave for Atletico Madrid if Cristian Romero departs, but Spurs should do everything they can to keep him, especially considering the impact that he could have in their attacking play.

His latest display for his nation, with the game taking place some 7,000 miles away from North London, proves that he can be a crucial asset for Frank in both aspects of the game.
