Every match Cristian Romero will miss for Tottenham after ‘ridiculous’ Man United incident

Cristian Romero is set to miss some crucial games for Tottenham.

Tottenham fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Manchester United, which will do nothing for Thomas Frank’s future in North London.

However, on this occasion, the blame will not fall at the feet of the Dane, but rather on the shoulders of Romero, who received a straight red card for his awful challenge on Casemiro.

Having already been sent off in Tottenham’s defeat to Liverpool back in December, the Argentine is set to be handed an extended ban.

Cristian Romero should be ashamed after what he said about Tottenham

Romero has the quality to play for almost any side in the world, but has the temperament that would almost certainly prevent any of them from making a move for him.

His sending off against the Red Devils was the sixth of his Tottenham career, and came just days after Romero launched a rant at the club on his own social media.

There were no complaints about the decision given the challenge, and despite his reputation for making tackles like that, Ally McCoist was still stunned by the stupidity on display.

Via TNT Sport, he said: “I don’t think he needs to follow through. I think it’s ridiculous. There’s a way you can go and challenge for the ball and win the ball.”

With it being his second sending off of the season, Romero will miss Tottenham’s next four league games, including home encounters against Newcastle, Arsenal and Crystal Palace, as well as an away trip to Fulham.

Should he return to the squad after his ban, it will be 15 March until we see him back in a Tottenham shirt when they travel to face Liverpool of all teams.

Thomas Frank now has to make a bold decision at Tottenham

After yet another defeat, Tottenham simply cannot be ruled out of a relegation battle.

And if Spurs are to utilise Romero after his ban has been served, they could easily find themselves on the wrong side of that battle, given how much of a liability he has become.

As showcased by Sofascore, Romero won just half of his four defensive duels against Man United, which was just as many fouls as he committed in the game.

It’s now 28 fouls committed by the 27-year-old this season, 10 of which have resulted in cards, showcasing just how liable he is to a stupid incident.

Tottenham simply can’t continue with him in the team if they are to progress, and that decision will be on Frank to make when they make the trip to Liverpool.
