Destiny Udogie must be axed after ‘awful’ Tottenham moment v Bournemouth
Destiny Udogie must be axed when Tottenham host Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.
Spurs suffered arguably one of their worst defeats of the season on Thursday [5 December], losing 1-0 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League.
While on paper there have been much worse results this term, the performance against the Cherries is what would have disappointed supporters the most.
It was perhaps their worst since Ange Postecoglou arrived at the club, with questions no doubt bound to be asked of the manager, especially if Spurs lose against Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium [8 December].
The Australian could be incredibly short of defenders for that London derby after a fresh Ben Davies injury concern. However, Davies or no Davies, Udogie should be dropped from the starting lineup against the Blues.
Udogie and Pedro Porro have hardly been offered any rest this season. As a result, Postecoglou decided to bench Porro against the Cherries, perhaps to the surprise of some.
And the Australian must now repeat that trick with Udogie, with Djed Spence no doubt ready to come in and hungry to show what he is about.
Destiny Udogie must be axed for Tottenham v Chelsea
On paper, Udogie’s performance on the South Coast wasn’t necessarily that bad.
As per Sofascore, he made six tackles, one clearance and one interception, although he was dribbled past once. In addition, he completed 89 per cent of his passes, with two of his three long balls accurate, although his one cross was inaccurate.
The Italian also won 10 of his 12 ground duels and three of his four aerial duels, while also winning two fouls for his side without giving any away himself. Finally, he also succeeded with 100 per cent of his dribble attempts.
However, the left-back went to sleep at the all-important moment in the match, when Dean Huijsen headed the hosts into the lead in the 17th minute.
While commentating on Amazon Prime’s live coverage of the match, Alan Shearer said [5 December, 8:32 pm,], “The defending is dreadful. Not once is anyone within three yards of him. It’s a good ball and a good header, but Tottenham need to look at themselves.
“Udogie doesn’t even know he’s there. It’s awful defending.”

Therefore, while he might have had some stats in his favour, Udogie switched off when it mattered most, proving that he isn’t all there at the moment and needs to be dropped.
