Ange Postecoglou to axe Son Heung-min in two changes – Tottenham predicted XI v Liverpool
Ange Postecoglou could make two changes when Tottenham travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Sunday (5 May).
Spurs fell to their third consecutive defeat as they were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (2 May).
Qualifying for the UEFA Champions League now looks out of the question and Postecoglou’s side will need to ensure that they maintain fifth position.
Victory against Liverpool would take them a big step toward doing that, although it won’t be easy considering Spurs’ awful recent record at Anfield.
After some of the performances from his players as of late, Postecoglou will need to make some big decisions against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Ange Postecoglou could axe Son Heung-min against Liverpool
Guglielmo Vicario should continue between the sticks for Spurs with the Italy international unable to do much about either goal he conceded against Chelsea while he made two saves and succeeded with 100 per cent of his runs outside of the box (Sofascore).
Emerson Royal had a difficult evening at left-back but will be required to play there once again with options limited in that area of the pitch for Postecoglou, while Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven should continue in the heart of defence.
Romero was once again in the thick of things against Chelsea as he missed a big chance late in the first half, while van de Ven made an excellent clearance off the line at Stamford Bridge.
Pedro Porro didn’t have his finest match as he was dribbled past three times and won just three of his nine ground duels, but once again a lack of options at right-back means the Spaniard is unlikely to be dropped.
Yves Bissouma should make way for Rodrigo Bentancur after a tricky evening for the Mali international which saw him dribbled past twice, while Pape Matar Sarr could continue alongside Bentancur.
James Maddison could be recalled to play in the number ten role, with Dejan Kulusevski struggling to impress in that position against Chelsea.
The Swede completed just 79 per cent of his passes and won just one of his 10 ground duels, and he is likely to be moved back to his usual position on the right.
Brennan Johnson, who was playing on the right against Chelsea, could therefore be moved to the left.
The Wales international also didn’t have his finest hour at Stamford Bridge as he completed just one of his six dribbles and failed to provide an accurate cross into the box from five attempts.
Postecoglou might consider leaving Son on the bench with the South Korea international cutting a tired figure against Chelsea.
The 31-year-old completed just 80 per cent of his passes and failed to register a shot at goal as he looked a shadow of his usual self.

A much-needed rest against Liverpool after three games in seven days could benefit the Spurs captain, which would leave Richarlison with the responsibility of leading the line on Merseyside.
