Ange Postecoglou simply needs more from Sarr at Tottenham after what O’Hara said

Ange Postecoglou increased the pressure upon his shoulders after Tottenham were beaten 2-1 by relegation-threatened Leicester City on Sunday.

Spurs have been well below average this season with a lot of their woes such as injuries and poor form all taking its toll on the North London club.

Postecoglou has been consistently criticised for the way he’s handled things at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season with fans more often than not calling for his head at every chance they get.

While none of Spurs’ players were all that spectacular against the Foxes on 26 January, Pape Sarr had a particularly poor game with the midfielder getting hooked in the 54th minute.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News (26 January), ex-Spurs man Jamie O’Hara shared his thoughts on the first-half performance of Sarr.

“They’re 1-0 up but I still believe it needs to be better, some of the passing, Pape Sarr has come back into the team today and he needs to be better for me,” he said.

“We’re talking about an experienced player now, he’s been in the Tottenham side for a season or so, he’s not a young player and he’s one of those players you need to look towards to get a hold of the game and I’m expecting more from him.”

Tottenham need more from Pape Matar Sarr

As has been the case for most of the 2024/25 season, Postecoglou has needed a lot more from his players than what he’s been given.

And, as per Sofascore, Sarr’s performances against the Foxes on Sunday has left a lot to be desired.

In the 54 minutes he was on the pitch, he only had 34 touches of the ball but he did manage to maintain a pass accuracy of 84 per cent.

Defensively, however, the 22-year-old seemed to be all over the shop as he only managed to win 50 per cent of his aerial duels and also lost possession of the ball six times.

Sarr also committed a foul and while he managed to win both of the ground duels he attempted, he felt like the weak link in the centre of the park.

Despite managing to maintain a pass accuracy of 84 per cent, none of his completed passes were turned into big chances or even deemed strong enough to be a ‘key’ pass.

Only time will tell what the future has in store for Postecoglou but if his players continue playing to this below-par level, it’s hard to see how Daniel Levy could keep him in charge of the squad.
