Ange Postecoglou gets it wrong as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg starts for Tottenham v West Ham United

Ange Postecoglou has made a big mistake with his Tottenham starting lineup to take on West Ham after naming Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in his team.

Cristian Romero has returned to the starting lineup after serving his suspension, while Emerson Royal drops out to make space for the Argentine warrior.

But in the midfield, Postecoglou has stiffened the team up slightly by bringing in Hojbjerg for Bryan Gil, with Giovanni Lo Celso moved further forward into a number ten role.

But if he wants more defensive stability then the former Celtic boss has surely made a mistake after the way Hojbjerg performed when he came on as a substitute in the 3-3 draw with Manchester City last weekend.

The Danish midfielder failed to make a single tackle during his second-half introduction, failing with his only attempt, while also being dribbled past in the midfield once – more than anyone not named Royal, Destiny Udogie or Brennan Johnson in a Spurs shirt according to WhoScored.

Oliver Skipp is waiting patiently for his opportunity and with Pape Sarr still out injured, if Postecoglou wanted more sturdiness in the middle then he was the man that should’ve come into the side and not Hojbjerg.

The former Bayern Munich man was set to leave the club in the summer and there was a reason why Ange wasn’t standing in his way. Watching him come into the team so often is just illogical at this point.

He’s not performing particularly well and we have other options who have a more long-term future in north London. This is a mistake from the boss ahead of a game we simply can’t afford to lose.

In other Tottenham news, lightning should strike twice as Spurs have upper hand in transfer battle.
