Ange Postecoglou could regret his decision to start Brennan Johnson for Tottenham v Liverpool

Ange Postecoglou could regret starting Brennan Johnson for Tottenham against Liverpool after the forward’s performance against Chelsea.

Spurs arrive at Anfield to take on Liverpool on Sunday (5 May) off the back of three straight defeats.

Two of those defeats arrived within the space of a week as Postecoglou’s side were beaten 3-2 by Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (28 April) before losing 2-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (2 May).

Postecoglou opted to leave Maddison out against the Blues, introducing the midfielder in the 63rd minute, with the 27-year-old making a minimal impact off the bench.

Maddison has once again been benched (Spurs’ Official X, 5 May), but Postecoglou could regret the decision not to bench Johnson alongside him.

Johnson was given the nod at Stamford Bridge after being left out against Arsenal, but the forward did very little to impress.

As per Sofascore, the ex-Nottingham Forest ace completed just 73 per cent of his passes, with only one of those key, while he was accurate with zero per cent of his crosses into the box.

In addition, he completed just one of his six dribble attempts, missed one big chance and gave possession away 18 times.

He was just as bad defensively, winning just one of his seven ground duels, and Postecoglou will hope to see much more from the forward against Liverpool.
