Ange Postecoglou could regret his decision to start Brennan Johnson for Tottenham v Chelsea

Ange Postecoglou could regret starting Brennan Johnson for Tottenham against Chelsea after the forward’s performance in the North London derby.

Spurs will likely still be hurting after their 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (28 April).

However, they have the perfect opportunity to put that behind them by claiming three points against another London rival as they arrive at Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on Thursday (2 May).

Postecoglou will know that only a victory will suffice if Spurs are to keep their fading UEFA Champions League hopes alive.

With a trip to Liverpool scheduled for Sunday (5 May), a big performance will be needed in West London if Spurs are to arrive at Anfield with any momentum.

Tottenham will also be desperate to avoid a third consecutive defeat, although Postecoglou’s team selection could end up costing his side at Stamford Bridge (Spurs’ Official X, 2 May).

Johnson was benched for the North London derby on Sunday.

However, after Timo Werner went off injured in the 31st minute, the Wales international came on to replace him but struggled to make much of an impact.

As per Sofascore, the forward completed just 73 per cent of his passes and was accurate with zero per cent of his crosses into the box, failing with all four attempts.

Johnson also failed to find his target with the one long ball he played forward while succeeding with just two of his five dribble attempts.

Defensively he was even worse as he won just three of his nine ground duels, gave possession away 14 times and was dribbled past once.

What was most disappointing was the fact that his performance came in such a crucial match for Spurs, and supporters will be hoping he is much more up for the London derby with Chelsea.
