View: Tottenham Women say goodbye to Finland international goalkeeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela too soon
Tottenham Women have announced on the official club website that Tinja-Riikka Korpela has left the club with her contract finishing at the end of the season.
Spurs made the announcement on Friday 9 June and it comes off the back of the news that five other players would be leaving the club at the end of this season following the expiration of their contracts.
It does feel as if the Finland goalkeeper’s time with the club perhaps finished too early, having only joined the club in July 2021 following two years with Everton.

During her spell in North London, Korpela made 30 appearances and kept 11 clean sheets, which is an impressive return for a goalkeeper playing at WSL level.
It is a sad goodbye for the club and Managing Director Andy Rogers shared a heartfelt goodbye following the announcement of her departure, “As has been the case for all the players moving on this summer, it’s not easy to say goodbye, but we wish Tinni all the best for the future and she departs with our sincere thanks for her contribution to Tottenham Hotspur over the past two seasons.”
It is clear that Korpela was considered highly around the club and had an unusual situation at Tottenham as she found herself sharing the number one position with Becky Spencer. Neither keeper was the obvious first choice with the other and they would both rotate in and out of the side.

With Korpela now 37 years old and a clear number one position not nailed down, she perhaps might have felt it best to move on and try a new challenge as her career begins to come toward an end.
In other Tottenham news, the hunt for the next women’s manager continues.
