View: Tottenham Women make powerful decision in regard to new kit for next season

The new Tottenham kit was officially released on Thursday and while the theme of the men’s strip is all white, Spurs Women have made a big decision in regard to the colour of their shorts.

Following the lead of the Lionesses and Manchester City’s Women’s team, Tottenham Women will now wear navy shorts rather than the traditional white shorts that the men will wear as part of the 2023/24 kit.

The decision is part of a response that Nike, as well as other companies, are taking based on feedback they have received from players. Manchester City was the first high-profile WSL club to respond, switching to navy shorts in October.

As reported by Football London on 8 June, an official club statement reads, “Following player feedback and the wider move away from white shorts by female athletes across sport, the Club and Nike will support our Women’s team in wearing alternate blue shorts with our new Home Kit to create the best possible environment for comfort and performance during the menstrual cycle.”

The switch allows players to feel comfortable while on their period and makes for a more practical kit.

It is absolutely the right call from the club as it allowed women on the pitch to feel more comfortable and relaxed during games, which will only help to raise the morale and consequently the performances of the players.

It is fantastic to see the club, as well as Nike, taking on the feedback and listening to the players.

In other Tottenham news, the women’s team might be close to adding a new addition.
