Vicky Jepson deservedly handed Tottenham Women’s role
Tottenham Women have officially announced that Vicky Jepson has been appointed Women’s first-team senior assistant head coach.
Jepson will assume her duties for the upcoming 2023/24 campaign and joins first-team head coach Robert Vilaham as the club look to bounce back after a disappointing season last time out.
Spurs were at risk of relegation last season until Jepson herself stepped in as interim head coach and steered the side to safety and another year in the Women’s Super League, eventually finishing ninth, seven points clear of the dreaded drop.
Therefore her new role is certainly well earned after last season’s heroics and, as well as her first-team responsibilities, the 36-year-old also has an important part to play within the club’s youth system.
She will be working closely with the academy side in order to help the club’s younger players develop along their pathway to the women’s senior side. As well as this, she will be collaborating with the men’s academy in order to form a stronger connection between Spurs’ male and female teams.
“Robert and I already have good chemistry in terms of our working relationship. We understand each other and are both really excited to get on the grass when the girls return on 7 August,” Jepson told the club website (26 July).
“I’m hugely invested in our squad, as people and also in their development as players. It’s an elite performing environment that we’re creating and I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my journey here.”
It is an exciting role for the former Liverpool head coach to undertake and one she has proved that she can excel within. During her time on Merseyside, Jepson was named FA Female Development Coach of the Year, which will excite the young players who now have the opportunity to work more closely alongside her.
She already knows the club inside and out having spent two years in North London, in both assistant coach and head coach roles, and the appointment is a smart one, as well as a well deserved one.
The hard work will begin for Jepson and Vilaham on Sunday, 1 October when they kick off their WSL campaign with a tricky away trip to West London, where last season’s champions Chelsea will be waiting at Stamford Bridge.
