Tottenham Women strengthen their squad with addition of Luana Buhler

Luana Buhler is the first signing of Robert Vilahamn’s reign as manager of Tottenham Women.

Tottenham Women recently announced the signing of the Swiss defender (8 July) who arrives from Hoffenheim on a two-year deal after spending five years with the Frauen-Bundesliga outfit.

Through the signing of Buhler, the club have acquired a talented and experienced player who has featured at the highest levels of the women’s game.

She began her career in her home country of Switzerland playing for FC Zurich where she pulled on the club’s shirt in four UEFA Women’s Champions League fixtures as well as also lifting the Nationalliga A Women’s title and the Schweizer Pokal Frauen.

Her impressive performances in Zurich earned her a move to Hoffenheim in 2018 after just one season in senior football, and following her move, she took her game to the next level. Overall, she made 100 appearances for the German side, with eight of those coming in the Champions League.

Buhler scored six goals during her time in Germany and was also named club captain during her stay, leading Hoffenheim to a fourth placed-finish in the Frauen-Bundesliga during the 2022/23 season, in what would turn out to be her final year with the club.

At international level, Buhler has won 40 caps for Switzerland and will be part of the squad looking to challenge for the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy in Australia and New Zealand this summer.

Still just 27 years of age, the defender arrives in the Women’s Super League in the prime of her career and could use her experience at the highest level to help Tottenham Women fight higher up the table next season.

The club narrowly avoided relegation last term after finishing fifth, their highest-ever finish, the season before and Buhler will hope to help her new club get back on track.

With the arrival of Swedish boss Vilahamn and now Buhler, a European revolution is beginning in North London and fans of Tottenham Women will be feeling increasingly optimistic about their prospects ahead of next season.
