Tottenham Women show strength in depth to reach Conti Cup quarter-finals as new signings settle in quickly

Charlotte Grant netted her first goal for Tottenham Women as they reached the quarter-final of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.

Robert Vilahamn and his Spurs squad just continue to go from strength to strength.

After thrashings at the hands of Manchester City and Manchester United Women, the North London outfit haven’t tasted defeat in their five matches since, and their first-ever win over Arsenal Women seems to have breathed new life into the club.

Since that famous 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 16 December, Spurs have won three matches on the bounce, beating Sheffield United Women in the FA Women’s Cup, before claiming three points in the WSL against West Ham Women.

Their latest victory was a 3-0 win at Southampton Women on Thursday 25 January which saw them book their place in the last eight of the Conti Cup for a third consecutive season.

It saw them finish the group stages of the competition unbeaten, with a couple of fresh faces using the match as an opportunity to settle into the club and their new colours.

Ramona Petzelberger scored her first goal for Tottenham to open the scoring, while Clinton netted for the third time in two games this week to round off an emphatic scoreline at the Eastleigh Silverlake Stadium.

In between those two strikes, it was January signing Grant who scrambled in from close range to double Spurs’ lead on what was just her second start for her new club.

Amanda Nilden was handed her debut at left-back, while Matilda Vinberg made her first start since joining Spurs earlier this month.

It demonstrates the strength in depth that Vilahamn now has at his disposal as he looks to manage his Spurs squad who are competing on three fronts this season.

His new additions seemed to have settled in quickly and will look to keep the regular first-team players on their toes between now and the end of the season.

In other Tottenham news, one pundit believes a player could leave the club this summer with Everton suggested as a possible destination.
