Tottenham Women retain the services of Shelina Zadorsky as contract news emerges
Tottenham Women have officially announced that defender Shelina Zadorsky has signed a new one-year contract with the club, which will keep her in North London until June 2024.
Zadorsky arrived initially on loan from Orlando Pride in August 2020 and has since become a major presence in the side over the past three WSL seasons, having made her switch permanent in January 2021.
Throughout Spurs Women’s struggles last season, the Canada international was a key part of keeping her side in the WSL, before heading Down Under to represent her nation at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she faced a narrow group-stage exit, finishing a point below Nigeria in third place.
Smart move.
During the club’s highest-ever WSL finish, which was fifth in the 2021/22 campaign, Zadorsky was captain, underlining her importance to the team.
The 30-year-old has made 68 appearances to date, scoring twice, and is now set to make at least another season’s worth in the colours of Lilywhite.
Robert Vilahman has taken over as manager and will be looking to help the WSL side bounce back, starting with a tricky trip to last season’s champions Chelsea, on 1 October.
It has been a busy summer for the club, who have brought in the likes of Grace Clinton on loan from Manchester United, Finnish midfielder Olga Ahtinen and goalkeeper Barbora Votikova, previously of PSG, to name a few.
With Bethany England ready to return, fresh off making history with the Lionesses, and the retention of Zadorsky, which will feel like a new signing in itself, it could be a very exciting season for the club as they look to put the disappointment of the previous campaign behind them.
