Tottenham Women demonstrate strength in depth in FA Cup Round of 16 success
Tottenham Women have reached the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup for only the third time in their history.
Robert Vilahamn continues to impress in North London after yet another huge result.
Spurs were all over the place last season, but this year they sit sixth in the FA Women’s Super League while they’re also going strong in the FA Cup.
They were made to work for their place in the last eight by a stubborn Charlton Athletic Women’s side on Saturday 10 February, but in the end, they were able to get across the line with a 1-0 victory at Brisbane Road.
Charlton, who are led by former Spurs boss Karen Hills, sit top of the Women’s Championship and demonstrated brilliant resilience to hold the hosts off until the 76th minute.
However, Spurs’ quality eventually shone through as Kit Graham stepped up to score the winner against her former side. Graham spent 14 years with the Addicks, scoring more than 200 goals in that time, and certainly would have had mixed emotions in her heart as she drove home the winner.
Tottenham Women show strength in depth
Graham stepped off the bench to grab the match-winner against Charlton on Saturday.
It was a testament to the strength of Spurs’ squad and a sign of brilliant in-game management by Vilahamn.
The 28-year-old has mostly been used as a squad player in North London this season, but when she has been called upon, she has stepped up.
Graham’s strike against Charlton was her third of the season, with one assist to add to that haul, and all three of her goal contributions have come in cup competitions.
She starred in the 3-0 win over Bristol City Women in the FA Women’s League Cup on 22 November when she grabbed a goal and completed 100 per cent of her dribble attempts (Sofascore).
Graham also impressed in the 6-0 win over Reading Women on 11 October as she scored, grabbed an assist, played five key passes and was successful with seven of her eight dribble attempts.
While she doesn’t start all that often, this winner emphasised her importance in the Tottenham squad and how the overall quality of that squad is continuing to improve.
In other Tottenham news, a 92 per cent Spurs ace stepped up to save his side against Brighton on Saturday.
