Tottenham Women announce the signing of international midfielder Olga Ahtinen

A European revolution is continuing to take place at Hotspur Way this summer with the Tottenham Women’s team adding another international talent to their ranks.

Swiss defender Luana Buhler, who featured for her country at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, has already been unveiled as one of the club’s brand-new signings this summer, and prior to this Swede Robert Vilahamn was announced as the new head coach of the women’s side.

Now, another international has walked through the doors of The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as the club have officially announced the signing of Finnish midfielder Olga Ahtinen from Linkopings FC (16 August).

Continental.

Ahtinen will pull on the number 20 shirt and has signed a two-year deal that will keep her at the club until 2025. The 26-year-old, who was born in Kokkola, made her senior debut 10 years ago and therefore has plenty of experience despite still being in her mid-20s.

She began her playing days with her local side, GBK Kokkola, before moving around Finland. First, making the switch to Kokkola Futis 10, before leaving her birth town entirely, heading east to link up with Pallokissat, where she made 50 appearances across two years, scoring eight goals.

After a brief stint in the South of Finland with PK-35 Vantaa, she left Finnish football entirely for the first time, signing for Danish side Brondby IF, and it was here where she enjoyed the majority of her club success. As well as winning the Women’s Cup in 2018 and the Kvindeliga in 2019, she made six UEFA Women’s Champions League appearances and scored 15 goals across her 56 games.

In 2019 she headed back up north, this time to Sweeden, arriving at IF Limhamn Bunkeflo before making the switch to Linkopings the following year, her most recent club. Her former side is where she spent the most time, playing 79 times and being named the club’s Most Valuable Player in 2022.

That takes Ahtinen’s journey to 2023 and Tottenham, as she has now switched life in the north of Europe for the hustle and bustle of North London. Her record internationally speaks for itself and will leave supporters feeling excited about the quality she can bring to the WSL.

She has scored eight goals for Finland, making more than 50 appearances for her nation, and was a part of their UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 squad as well as the country’s Cyprus Women’s Cup success earlier this year.

In other Tottenham News, the women’s team could have a World Cup winner on their books by the end of the week.
