Tottenham Women confirm Nikola Karczewska loan move to Bayer Leverkusen Women

Tottenham Women have officially announced that forward Nikola Karczewska has joined Frauen-Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen on loan for the 2023/24 season.

Spurs shared the update via their official Twitter page (5 September), confirming that the Poland international forward would be heading to play her football in Germany next season.

Karczewska joined the North London club last summer from French side FC Fleury 91 and has since gone on to make 19 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring on four occasions for the club.

Loan move for the best?

Two of her four goals and 14 of her 19 appearances came in the Barclays Women’s Super League, however, she was given just six starts. Injuries, combined with a lack of service in a side that was struggling for form, limited the impact she could make. In January, the arrival of Bethany England from Chelsea then saw Karczewska fall down the pecking order.

As a result, she perhaps felt a loan move would be the best option this season in order to guarantee some first-team minutes. The 23-year-old is joining a Leverkusen side who enjoyed a positive season last year, finishing fifth in the Frauen-Bundesliga.

Some consistent playing time will hopefully help her develop into a complete striker who can return and play a bigger role within new head coach Robert Vilahamn’s possession-based, high-pressing style of football.

Vilahamn would have now had a chance to analyse his squad following a series of behind-closed-doors friendlies and has clearly decided he can do without Karczewska this season, with the likes of Bethany England, Grace Clinton, Ellie Brazil or Rosella Ayane all available as striking options.

Karczewska is a talented player, who plenty associated with the club were excited about signing last season, and for her and Spurs’ sake, hopefully, the loan move does her a world of good and sees her return to Hotspur Way and fulfil her potential.

In other Tottenham news, a new man must become the regular striker for the men’s first-team.
