Tottenham forward signs brand-new three-year contract at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Women are already looking to bounce back after a difficult season, as one forward has now signed a new three-year deal in North London.

After a difficult second season in which his side finished 11th in the Barclays Women’s Super League, Robert Vilahamn is under pressure at Tottenham.

However, it looks as though plans are already being put in place ahead of next season after Tottenham announced a series of exits on Wednesday (28 May).

And as some players depart the North London club, another has committed her future to Tottenham.

Martha Thomas signs three-year contract with Tottenham

After a crushing injury blow to one Tottenham player was revealed on Wednesday, the Lilywhites needed some positive news.

And that arrived on Thursday (29 May) as Tottenham confirmed striker Thomas had penned a new three-year deal at Hotspur Way.

Thomas joined Spurs from Manchester United in September 2023 and made an instant impact in her first season, contributing to 10 goals in 19 WSL appearances.

In addition, the 28-year-old made history when she guided the Lilywhites to their first Women’s FA Cup final by heading home the winner in the semi-final against Leicester City in May 2024.

However, Thomas regressed this season and will need to reward Spurs’ faith in the upcoming campaign.

Thomas will need to show her level next season

Despite making 22 appearances in the WSL this year, Thomas was unable to net once.

This is consistent with the North London club’s league form this season, which saw them score five fewer goals and concede eight more than the season before.

While faced with injury and limited resources, Vilahamn has been devoid of fresh ideas and solutions, which has negatively impacted team performance.

Therefore, the Swedish coach will need to improve next season if still at the helm. Thomas’ renewal shows the players still have faith. However, that needs to be demonstrated on the pitch.
