‘Nildén has Tottenham point to prove’ after international development

Amanda Nildén has a chance to rebuild her career with Tottenham Women.

Nildén had a difficult season under Vilahamn, who was recently sacked by Tottenham.

The 26-year-old was in and out of the team last season, making 16 out of a possible 22 appearances in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

However, the Swede now has a chance to showcase her quality to Vilahamn’s successor at Tottenham after a new international development.

Nildén called up by Sweden for Euro 2025

Tottenham announced on Wednesday (11 June) that Nildén has been named in the Sweden National Team squad for Euro 2025.

This is her second call-up to a major tournament with her nation, after losing out to eventual winners England as part of Sweden’s Euro squad in 2022.

Nildén recently featured for Sweden in a 0-0 draw with Italy in the UEFA Women’s Nations League (30 May).

Before her substitution in the 72nd minute, the Spurs star had 44 touches of the ball and completed 76 per cent of her passes. Impressively, Nildén also won 100 per cent of her aerial duels [Sofascore].

She made three clearances as well as one interception and one tackle, and was also dribbled past just once. However, both of her crosses were inaccurate, and just one of her two long balls was accurate.

Therefore, Nildén will be looking to improve on this performance during the Euros, and the tournament will also allow her to prove herself to the new Tottenham manager, whoever that may be.

Tottenham will need to improve next season

Nildén is not the only one with something to prove on the pitch. Tottenham will need to prove once again that they can compete with the best next season.

The last season under Vilahamn was a disaster. The Lilywhites came 11th in the WSL and ended the season with 10 consecutive defeats.

Vilahamn was appointed by Spurs to bring something fresh to the table, but struggled to adapt to several injuries and changes during his final season. Therefore, Tottenham will take every chance they can get next season to prove themselves under their new coach.
