View: Forward Rosella Ayane commits her future to Tottenham Women as she prepares for World Cup

Rosella Ayane was a key player for Tottenham Women last season as she continues to grow with the club.

Across 19 WSL appearances last season Ayane scored once and provided four assists, finishing as the club’s top creator in the competition.

Therefore, it comes as fantastic news that the Morocco international has now committed her future to the club with Tottenham announcing on their official club website (14 July) that a new two-year deal has been signed.

Since arriving from Bristol City in 2019 the forward has made 66 WSL appearances, scoring on three occasions.

And her contributions extend far beyond the colours of Lilywhite as she recently won the Moroccan of the World award in the Sports category this past May. This was awarded after her vital contributions at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Morocco made history during the tournament, which took place within their country, by reaching their first-ever final in the competition. Ayane was crucial to this, as she scored the winning penalty in a semi-final shootout against Nigeria, which ended 5-4 in favour of the Moroccans.

Ayane found the net once again in the final, however, her goal wasn’t enough as Morocco fell just short at the last hurdle, losing 2-1 to South Africa.

Despite the final heartache, the Atlas Lionesses’ success at the tournament saw them qualify for this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history. They are now preparing to take on Germany, Columbia and the Republic of Korea in Group H this summer in Australia and New Zealand.

Upon her return from the World Cup, the 27-year-old will get ready to prepare for life under new boss Robert Vilahamn. With news of the new manager’s appointment as well as Ayane’s fresh terms, next season could be very exciting for Tottenham Women.

In other Tottenham news, the appointment of Robert Vilahamn could come as a much-needed boost for the team.
