Done Deal: Tottenham sign international defender on short-term deal

Tottenham Women have announced the signing of Swedish international defender Josefine Rybrink on a deal that will see her contracted until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Spurs Women have completed the signing of Rybrink on a deal until the end of the season, joining from Swedish outfit Hackenas confirmed via their club site [28 January].

Following their 3-2 victory against Crystal Palace [26 January], Spurs find themselves firmly in mid-table with 17 points from 12 fixtures and reinforcements could be just what they need to progress up the table.

At 27 years old, Rybrink has a wealth of experience in football with the majority of her career being spent in Sweden, while having accumulated eight caps for her country.

Rybrink’s arrival comes less than two weeks after Spurs completed the signing of Lize Kop.

Josefine Rybrink will add depth and quality to Tottenham

Typically operating as a centre-back, Rybrink will add some much-needed quality to the Spurs backline which has typically consisted of Clare Hunt and Molly Bartrip.

The duo have formed a healthy partnership in the heart of defence but the arrival of Rybrink may allow Robert Villahamn some extra wiggle space when it comes to selecting his teams.

With over 200 league appearances in her native country, Rybrink has bags of experience and her quality has seen her play in the Women’s Champions League as well as earning caps for the Sweden national side.

Robert Vilahamn enjoyed a positive first season in charge of Tottenham Women.

Luana Buhler is another centre-back awaiting a real shot in the first team having made just four league appearances so far this season and the arrival of Rybrink may push her even further down the pecking order.

Spurs will need to overcome a considerable gap if they are to progress up the table, with seven points separating them from Arsenal in fourth place.
