Amanda Nildén ‘to get Robert Vilahamn sacked’ at Tottenham Women

Robert Vilahamn is under heavy pressure at Tottenham Women, and Amanda Nildén certainly hasn’t helped his cause.

It was a hugely underwhelming season for Spurs, who finished 11th in the Barclays Women’s Super League with just 20 points.

Tottenham drew 1-1 with Everton Women in their final game of the WSL season at The Walton Hall Park Football Pitch on Saturday (10 May).

Now, after failing to get the best out of several players this season, it may be the end of the road for Vilahamn at Spurs.

Nildén disappoints against Everton

As reported by BBC Sport (12 May), Tottenham are considering sacking Vilahamn this summer.

A draw on the final day against Everton extended Spurs’ winless run in all competitions to 11 games, and confirmed that their 3-2 victory away against Crystal Palace Women on 26 January was their final win of the 2024/25 campaign.

Nildén in particular struggled against the Toffees. The defender won zero per cent of her ground duels, was dribbled past once, lost possession 16 times and committed two fouls [Sofascore].

Furthermore, the 26-year-old’s attempts to advance the ball did not fare much better, as she failed to produce a single accurate long ball or cross and was unsuccessful with both of her attempted dribbles.

Vilahamn seemed to have seen enough after she was taken out with almost half an hour left on the clock.

Spurs need to improve next season

An 11th-place finish for Tottenham is less than ideal. Therefore, huge investment is needed this summer to turn things around.

Drew Spence’s goal gave a glimpse of what this team could achieve if given the time and resources to make things happen. However, it is still unclear whether Vilahamn will remain at the helm next season or if he, or his successor, will be backed by the Lilywhites this summer.

Tottenham already added a few pieces to their chessboard after Eleanor Heeps signed a new deal recently.

Despite this, after a season best to be forgotten, big moves in the summer will need to be made to reignite confidence in this Spurs team.
