View: Tottenham must sign David Raya, Hugo Lloris is now finished

Tottenham kept their hopes of Champions League qualification alive on Saturday 08 April with a massive 2-1 win against Brighton in London.

It was a game filled with controversy with numerous VAR calls going against the away side, who have already been told they should have been handed a penalty.

With Hugo Lloris playing the way he is, that would have almost have been as good as a goal with the Frenchman not justifying his selection ahead of Fraser Forster.

With Fabrizio Romano adding to his reports that Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is of interest with a supposed price tag of £35million, this is where it gets interesting.

Looking at the Brighton game alone and there were numerous instances where Lloris was simply not good enough at the biggest moments, starting with the Lewis Dunk goal.

The above screenshot shows that the veteran stopper was already behind the line and in his own net when Dunk made contact, with his header simply going straight through him.

Somehow it got even worst, but it was VAR that saved the day when Danny Welbeck’s strike took a slight deflection to beat Lloris even though it was straight at him.

Yes, this one may be harsh, but when you’re fighting for Champions League football, these are the saves that your goalkeeper needs to be making.

Aaron Ramsdale and Arsenal are the perfect example, with the England stopper making two unbelievable saves to rescue a point at Anfield against Liverpool yesterday.

According to FBRef, Raya is in the 87th percentile in regards to save percentage which is compared to Lloris who is lacking behind in the 56th.

Raya’s distribution and ability to sniff out danger in the box is also among the best in world football, with his number of touches and stopped crosses percentage also very high.

It is clear that the time for change is here, with Spurs needing to splash the cash on a new goalkeeper in the summer, with Lloris not good enough.

Raya is available and ready for the move, it seems, so it would be a foolish move to ignore that from those in the boardroom at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
