Youth coach says ‘special’ Tottenham star is even more talented than Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres

Tottenham have always prioritised the signing of young stars and the development of youth.

This summer, Spurs signed Kota Takai and Mathys Tel, with both just 20-years-old, and with bags of potential.

Tottenham also sent Yang min-Hyeok, Luka Vuskovic, Mikey Moore, and Ashley Phillips out on loan to get consistent game time, helping towards their individual progress.

However, Spurs’ biggest talent could be one that people perhaps don’t expect, with a former youth coach stating that he has more talent than Gyokores.

Lucas Bergvall tipped to become better than Viktor Gyokores

The 19-year-old made his senior debut for Swedish side Brommapojkarna at the age of 15, with his bright performance earning him a move to Spurs last summer.

The Brommapojkarna academy boasts over 260 teams and 4000 players, and Bergvall’s former youth coach, Peter Kisfauldy, spoke to SunSport about the Tottenham star’s potential.

He said: “I worked with him when he was nine years old until 14. And directly after the first training session I was thinking ‘oh s***, this is something special’.

“He has always been the wonderkid that everyone is speaking about.

“I have worked in the Brommapojkarna academy for so many years; we had Gyokeres, Kulusevski, John Guidetti, and Ludwig Augustinsson, but Lucas has the most talent of anybody.

“He always had fantastic technique, and he is scanning the play, always, always the head is up high, and he is scanning the play. He always knows what the next step is.”

Harry Redkanpp has tipped Bergvall to impress this season, as the 19-year-old heads into his second campaign as a Tottenham player.

Bergvall has had a meteoric rise in the world of football, with just three years separating his first appearance and his first call up to the Swedish national team.

Despite Tottenham’s turbulent season under Ange Postecoglou, Bergvall played a significant role in the Europa League win, featuring 12 times as Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final.

Bergvall is extremely technically gifted, yet Kisfauldy believes his mental strength is what sets him apart.

Bergvall has always had a winning mentality

Bergvall is such an assured player on the pitch, but his determination off it makes him such a special talent.

Kisfauldy said: “He was always the boy, who if he lost playing seven-aside in the last 20 minutes of training, he was totally upset when he was 10 years old, totally upset. He hated to lose.

“In training, he always worked so hard, so he had this special extra thing. He loves to train; he can train 100 days in a row.”

Bergvall’s discipline was praised under Ange Postecoglou, with former Spurs assistant Nick Montgomery expressing how he always trained well and how his attitude was exemplary.

It’s clear that Spurs have a top player on their hands, and the fact that he hasn’t been sent out on loan like many other young players shows his value to the team already.

Whilst he has only started one match this season, he has featured in all of them, and remains a crucial part of Thomas Frank’s plans.
