Yoane Wissa signs – Which attacker Brentford star could replace at Tottenham

Thomas Frank is keen to add a striker to Tottenham’s front line this summer.

Brennan Johnson was Tottenham’s top scorer last season, both in the Premier League and across all competitions, while Spurs strikers contributed to just 20 per cent of the Lilywhites’ league goals.

Most of the onus fell on Dominic Solanke to lead the line, inevitably resulting in an injury which saw both Son Heung-min and later Mathys Tel try to fill in despite it not being their natural position.

This is a key issue for Spurs to address this summer, with Frank targeting a reunion with Yoane Wissa, which could have ramifications for one of Tottenham’s current players.

Frank to axe Richarlison for Wissa

With Tottenham having agreed a deal for Mohammed Kudus, Frank can fully turn his attention to bringing in a more traditional striker.

A reunion with Wissa is currently on the cards, which will likely spell the end of Richarlison’s time in North London.

The Brazilian striker has struggled to make an impact since joining Tottenham from Everton in July 2022, scoring just one Premier League goal in his first campaign in North London.

Injuries took a toll on the 28-year-old, culminating in just four league starts last season, though he recovered in time to play a crucial role in the final three UEFA Europa League fixtures.

Nevertheless, Wissa would replace Tottenham’s number nine, as he has been far more reliable and prolific over the last two seasons, and already has a strong connection with Frank.

Spurs are willing to sell Richarlison, with clubs in Turkey and Brazil reportedly interested in signing the former Watford man.

Wissa to offer Solanke reprieve

Solanke was given a difficult task last season under Ange Postecoglou of leading the press, being part of the build-up play, and getting on the end of chances all at the same time.

He is more than capable of all three roles, but found striking the balance difficult, which cost him in terms of goalscoring.

The 27-year-old wasn’t helped by Richarlison’s lack of availability, but the arrival of Wissa would change that. The Brentford striker has a significantly better injury record than the Brazil international and possesses different attributes, notably his pace and movement off the ball.

This will enable Frank, who is more adaptable than his predecessor, to switch between the two front men depending on their opponents and offer Solanke some reprieve and rest when necessary.
