Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange to follow Thomas Frank out the door after what they did at Tottenham
Thomas Frank has been sacked by Tottenham after a terrible spell in charge and it could spark several more exits.
Frank was dismissed on Wednesday morning, just hours after Spurs had been beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
His departure had looked inevitable for some time, with the North London side languishing down in 16th in the Premier League.
Defeat against the Magpies proved to be the final straw, with Tottenham just five points clear of the relegation zone and sliding towards the Championship.
Venkatesham and Lange wanted to keep Thomas Frank
Frank was consistently backed by the board throughout his final few months at Tottenham, despite the fanbase calling for his head.
The Dane failed to spark any improvement in performances or results though, which was ultimately his downfall.
However, according to Spurs journalist Paul O’Keefe, chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange still wanted to keep Frank, even after the Newcastle defeat.
O’Keefe added that the Lewis family had ordered the pair to dismiss the former Brentford boss, stepping in to make the final decision.
There has been a lot of discussion about the leadership structure at Spurs in recent months, following the exit of Daniel Levy last September, and this will do little to quell the rumours of disarray.
Venkatesham and Lange destined for the sack
As Tottenham begin the search for their third manager in just over eight months, it’s clear that the issues at the club run far deeper than just who is in the dugout.
Venkatesham and Lange are meant to be running the Lilywhites day-to-day, but following the news about Frank’s sacking, it’s clear that the Lewis family are still heavily involved.
Tottenham’s 17th-place Premier League finish last season was just about acceptable, given that they won the Europa League.
However, now that they are still in the lower reaches of the table, the Lewis family will surely start looking at the likes of Venkatesham and Lange.

The pair refused to part ways with Frank, even when it became clear that it was best for the club, which won’t help their case either.
With the Lewis family stepping in to dismiss the Dane themselves, it hints that Venkatesham and Lange are on their last legs at Tottenham already.
