‘Van de Ven wants Postecoglou sacked’ after latest Tottenham admission

Micky van de Ven called out Ange Postecoglou ahead of Tottenham’s Europa League clash with Frankfurt.

Tottenham will be well aware of the importance of winning against Frankfurt, given the nightmare of a season they have endured domestically.

Not only does their chance of securing European football hinge on it, but the future of Postecoglou may follow suit, though his fate may have already been decided.

Injuries have played their part in this season’s failure, with Van de Ven falling victim to that, but his latest comments seem quite telling on the way Postecoglou has managed things.

Postecoglou has opted against playing Van de Ven

Dating back to October, Van de Ven has started just five games for Tottenham, despite being available for many others.

The Dutchman was an unused substitute in the recent victory against Southampton, as well as the 2-0 defeat to Fulham, with Ben Davies preferred alongside Cristian Romero, in a decision that left Van de Ven scratching his head.

Speaking ahead of the Frankfurt clash, in quotes reported by Football London (17 April), he said: “Why I don’t play every week, that’s not a question you should ask me, you have to ask the gaffer.

“But body-wise I’m feeling really well and really good – why I don’t play every week, you will have to ask the gaffer for this. But I’m feeling well.”

As a player of his quality, he will want to be starting every game where possible, and the fact that Postecoglou often refuses to follow through on that, you can imagine him waiting for Daniely Levy to pull the trigger, not just for his benefit, but also for that of his teammates.

Tottenham could sack Postecoglou within 24 hours

Rumours suggest that Postecoglou will be sacked even if Tottenham win the Europa League, though his future will almost definitely be sealed if they fail to progress tonight.

A defeat would not only see them end yet another season without silverware, but also confirm that they will be without European football for the next campaign, which will have some pretty drastic effects of its own.

On paper, Spurs should be finding a way past Frankfurt, but as showcased throughout the season, no one knows which team will turn up.

If Postecoglou opts against starting Van de Ven tonight, that could prove to be the final mistake he makes as Tottenham manager.
