‘Useless’ – Fans blast Tottenham star after ‘abysmal’ international scenes

Thomas Frank may need to reconsider his Tottenham side once the Premier League returns.

Frank has the unique problem of having several starters for one position.

It all looked a little touch-and-go at one point this summer. Morgan Gibbs-White extended his contract with Nottingham Forest, while Eberechi Eze snubbed Tottenham for Arsenal.

But with a snap of a finger, all seemed to have resolved itself. Xavi Simons signed at Tottenham from RB Leipzig, while Randal Kolo Muani arrived at the Lilywhites on loan.

However, having multiple starters in one squad is a big task to undertake and one that one regular starter may have made a little easier.

Tottenham and Welsh fans slam Brennan Johnson’s performance

Brennan Johnson started the season off on the right foot, scoring in Tottenham’s wins against Manchester City and Burnley.

There were concerns over whether he’d be able to retain his starting position, especially after Mohammed Kudus signed for Tottenham from West Ham. But Frank seems to be content with his performances.

However, his most recent display for Wales in their narrow 1-0 win over Kazakhstan on Thursday may have the Spurs manager second-guessing.

In 65 minutes played, Johnson created zero chances, nor did he register a single shot on target. He did not attempt one dribble, but was dribbled past once. The display was enough to upset both Tottenham and Welsh fans.

One fan who took to X on 4 September said: “Brennan Johnson is useless. Can’t even take his man on.”

Another added: “His effort levels for Wales have been abysmal since joining Tottenham. He was a young player with potential, got his move, and now acts like he doesn’t need to try.”

Tottenham fans were unmoved by his performance. One said: “Brennan Johnson does not stand out whatsoever in a match that features Wales and Kazakhstan.”

Another fan who chimed in said: “Always lethargic in a Wales shirt.” Meanwhile, someone else responded: “Genuinely looks like he couldn’t care less.”

Spurs supporters even directed their frustration at Johan Lange. Another added: “If Lange had a brain, he would have cashed on the guy this summer.”

Thomas Frank could give Wilson Odobert a chance

While Johnson has had a great couple of games for Tottenham, his performances for country may provide an opportunity for Wilson Odobert to sneak through the back door.

The Frenchman has taken to coming off the bench as a substitute for Frank this season, while Johnson fills his spot on the left wing. But as a natural left-winger, Odobert has a greater claim to the left flank than Johnson.

Frank even named Odobert over Mathys Tel in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League, which indicates that he values him.

Johnson may bring the goals, but Odbert has natural pace, power and technicality which could explode if given the opportunity. All things considered, there may be a change of succession on that left-hand side in due course.
