Udogie exit now matter of time at Tottenham after worrying reports in Italy

Destiny Udogie’s long-term future at Tottenham has been cast in doubt.

Udogie has been one of Spurs’ standout players over the last two seasons and is steadily becoming one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

The Italy international was seen as a coup for Tottenham when they signed him from Udinese, often referenced as one of Fabio Paratici‘s most significant finds during his time in North London.

The full-back is expected to feature prominently under Thomas Frank next season, but the Dane may be wary of relying too heavily on Udogie following the latest reports.

Udogie would consider leaving Tottenham for big club

Tottenham have explored signing a fullback this summer, as they currently have only four players in those positions in Udogie, Pedro Porro, Djed Spence, and Ben Davies.

Archie Gray and Micky Van de Ven filled in on occasion last season, but neither is deemed a long-term solution to Spurs’ lack of depth.

With one of Frank’s primary directives at Tottenham being that they must challenge in all four competitions, he can’t afford to lose any full-backs this summer.

AC Milan entertained a move for Udogie, but the defender would not leave Tottenham unless he’s tempted by a proposal from a bigger club, as reported in the print edition of the Gazzetta (22 July, pg13).

This will be a concern for Spurs, as the former Udinese player is just 22 years old, giving him ample time to develop further, especially under Frank’s guidance.

If Udogie continues on his current trajectory, it is only a matter of time before Tottenham start receiving offers from big clubs, and could face losing their star player.

Frank faces Spence conundrum

Frank is a fan of Spence and has previously considered bringing the Englishman to Brentford.

The former Middlesbrough player possesses all the assets that the Dane appreciates, including his excellent one-on-one defending and ability to drive with the ball at his feet.

However, after playing most of his career on the right, arguably Spence’s best performances donning a Spurs shirt have come on the opposite flank when covering for Udogie.

His versatility will be an asset to his manager, but it does leave Frank with a conundrum as to where and how to use Spence best next season.
