Tottenham rue missing out on Champions League POTM amid attacking woes vs Monaco
Tottenham were far from their best against Monaco on Wednesday night.
Concerns are growing around Thomas Frank after a disappointing Champions League game where Tottenham drew 0-0 against Monaco.
The game saw Tottenham break a 125-game record of not drawing 0-0 as attacking issues look the worst they’ve been for a long time.
Dominic Solanke remains injured for Spurs, as Richarlison disappointed up front again, with the Brazilian now eight games without a goal for club and country.
The Lilywhites are missing that extra something in the final third, despite Mohammed Kudus’ impressive performances.
And it means Spurs are left to rue not signing someone they were seemingly close to landing in the summer.

Tottenham will regret not signing Jamie Gittens
Tottenham were linked with Jamie Gittens in last winter’s transfer window, as the young English forward instead made the switch to London rivals Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Chelsea are now above Tottenham in the Premier League table after the Lilywhites lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on Saturday, and the missed opportunity with Gittens is now proving costly.
- Gittens played for Chelsea vs Ajax in the Champions League
- The winger grabbed an assist as the Blues won 5-1
- Gittens was exceptional for Tottenham’s rivals and won the Player of the Match award
Instead of going for Gittens, Tottenham went for Xavi Simons as their marquee signing this summer, and the Dutchman has failed to deliver so far at N17.
Not only that, but Tottenham’s lack of creation on the pitch against Monaco showed how much they miss a reliable playmaker like Gittens.

Tottenham’s attacking stats vs Monaco were dreadful
Playing away from home, it would be expected that Tottenham would have the majority of their success on the break, similarly to the 2-1 win against Leeds.
However, Tottenham’s attempt at creating chances against Monaco was truly pathetic, totalling an embarrassing 0.88 xG, with shots just flying in from outside the box, due to no creative sparks.
| Expected goals (xG) | Shots | Shots on target | Shots outside the box |
| 0.88 | 11 | 2 | 4 |
Richarlison barely had a sniff in front of goal and only had one shot, as Spurs lacked creativity the whole night.
Gittens could’ve been the man to provide that something extra alongside Kudus, as Tottenham cannot expect to rely on the latter for the whole season and be successful.
