Tottenham new manager: Ange Postecoglou ‘to be sacked in days’ as Silva accepts position
Tottenham could find themselves scrambling for a new manager once again as Ange Postecoglou’s time draws closer to the end.
Despite having a commanding lead going into the Europa League second-leg semi-final against Bodo/Glimt, the decision on Postecoglou’s future looks to have already been made.
The chance to finally end the 17-year trophy drought has delayed the inevitable, however, Tottenham may not have the luxury of stalling on the decision as news emerged around top target Marco Silva.

Silva news accelerates Daniel Levy’s timeline
Tottenham’s hierarchy have for many years been labelled as self-preserving and lacking ambition, with Daniel Levy often the target for fan disgruntlement.
The backlash from the bizarre decision to fire Martin Jol at half time in 2007 would have stuck in his mind, as well as the bemusement of sacking Jose Mourinho one week before a League Cup final in 2021.
He has since tried to adopt a more patient approach and give Postecoglou the chance to see through his project, but this decision may backfire as his top target is a man in demand.
It is believed that Fulham boss Silva is keen on the Tottenham gig, however, other clubs have also shown interest, and Al-Hilal have turned the Portuguese manager’s head, with a proposal now accepted.
Levy must take drastic measures if he is to hijack this move, meaning that he must relieve Postecoglou of his duties in the coming days if he is to stand a chance of landing his favoured replacement.

Silva’s credentials for the Tottenham job
Silva’s services would come at a considerable cost of £8m to Levy, however, it is clear to see why the Cottagers are demanding such a hefty fee for his release.
His work at Fulham has been transformative, taking them from the Championship and building them up to become an established Premier League side.
Season | Number of League Matches | Points | League Position |
24/25 | 35 | 51 | 11th |
23/24 | 38 | 47 | 13th |
22/23 | 38 | 52 | 10th |
21/22 | 46 | 1st (Championship) |
What’s more impressive is that he has done that on a tight budget, maximising the players at his disposal and working within tight financial constraints, which suits the way Levy wishes to operate.
With time running out to secure his services, Levy will know that he must act decisively. Postecoglou could be gone before he knows it, regardless of the Europa League.
