Tottenham must strike Yves Bissouma agreement after deadline day development

Tottenham have been left with a clear decision regarding Yves Bissouma’s future on deadline day.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a departure from N17 since the start of the summer, having failed to live up to expectations since his arrival from Brighton three years ago.

Bissouma has been closing in on a Spurs exit in recent days, with Galatasaray working on a deal to take the midfielder to Turkey.

Thomas Frank has made significant additions to his Lilywhites squad so far this summer, and that could spark departures in the final hours of the window.

Yves Bissouma set to stay at Tottenham

Bissouma had agreed personal terms over a Spurs exit, with the Mali international seemingly destined to join Galatasaray ahead of the deadline.

However, that move now appears to have fallen through, with the 29-year-old expected to still be a Spurs player beyond the deadline on Monday night, according to The Sun’s deadline day live blog.

Bissouma has not made a competitive appearance for Frank’s men so far this term, but that is thought to be due to a physical issue rather than the disciplinary concerns that have been suggested previously.

It has felt like an inevitability that Bissouma would be heading out of North London after Frank left him out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup final, but he is now destined to stay.

Spurs have to hand Yves Bissouma a new contract

Bissouma’s contract at Tottenham is due to expire at the end of the season, and the breakdown in the potential deal with Galatasaray has left the North Londoners in an awkward situation.

His performances have largely been disappointing in the last few seasons, and as a result, a sale would surely have been the ideal option for Daniel Levy and Co. this summer.

But with that option now looking likely to be off the table, they may end up having to hand the former Brighton star a new contract.

Spurs can’t really afford to lose Bissouma on a free, given that they paid a fee potentially as high as £35million for him.

Frank doesn’t appear to have much confidence in him to perform, but from a business perspective, a new one-year deal would give Tottenham the breathing room that they need to recoup some of their outlay on him in either January or next summer.
