Tottenham must ‘step up transfer interest’ amid Angel Gomes contract snub

Angel Gomes could prove to be a very useful addition for Tottenham in the summer.

The England international has caught the eye during his spell at Lille and looks set to depart Ligue 1 on a free transfer at the end of the season.

This could prove to be the perfect opportunity for Spurs to step in as Ange Postecoglou looks to improve his side ahead of a new campaign.

If the Lilywhites are to land the 24-year-old in the summer, they will need to step up their attempts after already rejecting a contract offer.

Gomes rejects offer from West Ham

With a player with the qualities of the former Manchester United man available, it is no surprise that there is a high level of interest.

One of the sides that want the midfielder is West Ham, who are also looking to add to their squad ahead of Graham Potter’s first full season in charge.

The Hammers may be able to offer the Englishman more regular minutes than Spurs can given the level of midfielder already available in North London.

With that being said, the 24-year-old has already opted to reject a move to the London Stadium after receiving an offer worth £100,000-a-week [The Guardian, 19 March].

There is said to be complications in the deal which would need to be ironed out before a move could go through although sources are far from confident over an agreement.

This could prove to be the perfect opportunity for the Lilywhites to step in and land the midfielder on a free transfer ahead of the summer.

Tottenham must swoop to sign Gomes

If Postecoglou is to avoid the sack in N17, he needs a summer window that will help to change the tide after such a poor Premier League season.

The addition of Gomes could prove to be a perfect start to the new season given how much quality he could add to the side.

With Yves Bissouma coming under fire and potentially on his way out, the Englishman would be a step in the right direction as a replacement.

Now that West Ham have had an offer rejected, there is little reason why Spurs shouldn’t be moving quickly to put a new offer in and take him away from the Hammers.
