Tottenham ‘may yet have lucked out’ in Eberechi Eze and Arsenal saga as dream target eyed
Tottenham have been dealt a major blow as bitter rivals Arsenal have swooped in to sign key target Eberechi Eze.
Spurs had been in negotiations with Crystal Palace for weeks over a deal to sign Eze, and a verbal agreement had been reached.
However, it emerged out of nowhere that Arsenal had snuck in to agree a deal for Eze right under Tottenham’s noses, and yet again Spurs have lost out on a key target.
Injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have made signing an attacking midfielder a priority, and Spurs now have their sights set on an alternative to Eze.

Tottenham dream of Morgan Rogers signing
Tottenham have now tried and failed to sign Morgan Gibbs-White, Savinho and Eze in this summer window, but another Premier League star is on their radar.
Morgan Rogers has been outstanding for Aston Villa, and is now seemingly the next name in Spurs’ shortlist of attacking targets.
Speaking on YouTube, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Rogers is now a key target for Spurs after the Eze transfer collapsed, but a deal will not be easy to complete.
- Rogers was a crucial player for Aston Villa last season, making 54 appearances across all competitions.
- The 23-year-old was outstanding, scoring 14 times and registering 16 assists, with seven of these contributions coming in the Champions League.
“After 10 days of negotiations, advanced negotiations, Arsenal appeared, and Tottenham lost the player,” he stated.
“What happens with Tottenham now? They started making some calls today already to try and understand the situation for new players to add to their squad.
“For example, I can tell you that one of the dream targets they have at Tottenham internally is Morgan Rogers at Aston Villa. But it’s seen as a very difficult deal because Villa don’t want to lose the player.
“So people in the industry believe that this deal is almost impossible for Morgan Rogers, but I can guarantee you that Tottenham are thinking internally about him as a perfect candidate.”
While missing out on Eze is clearly a blow, Spurs may just luck out if they can get arguably a better long-term option in Rogers instead.
Tottenham unlikely to sign Morgan Rogers
Spurs fans are unlikely to be excited by this link, for the simple reason that it is far from likely to happen in the remainder of this window.
Rogers would command a much higher fee than the mooted deals for Eze or Gibbs-White, and Villa have no need or desire to let him go.
The England international would be an incredible signing if Spurs somehow pull it off, but the reality is that Daniel Levy is unlikely to sanction or complete what would be a club-record signing with less than two weeks remaining in the window.
If they do somehow pull a deal off, then Spurs will have arguably lucked out, as they would have avoided signing an Arsenal fan in Eze, while securing the younger player who outscored the Palace star last season.
