Tottenham ‘may have just lucked out’ as Maghnes Akliouche emerges as Savinho alternative
Tottenham were interested in Manchester City star Savinho, but it now appears that a move for the winger is off.
Spurs were keen on signing Savinho but Man City are now unwilling to sell, meaning that Daniel Levy will need to move on to other targets.
Tottenham have now been linked with Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche as an alternative, and it is easy to see why.
Akliouche is a rising star in French football, and Thomas Frank will now be keen on adding him to his Tottenham side, given his similarities with Savinho.
How Akliouche’s experience compares to Savinho
Both Akliouche and Savinho come with similar levels of experience in European leagues, but Savinho has the advantage in this regard as a player who has featured in the Premier League for Man City.

Akliouche has spent his entire career at Monaco after coming through the academy, while Savinho has featured for Atletico Mineiro, Girona, Man City and PSV Eindhoven.
What the stats say about Savinho and Akliouche
Akliouche is an obvious alternative to Savinho for Tottenham when it comes to the underlying stats, but with the Frenchman more naturally suited to the right wing, Mohammed Kudus could end up moving position.
- Savinho and Akliouche are similar statistically, but as per FBref, Akliouche is the better-rounded player as he contributes more defensively.
- The Brazilian does slightly rank above the 23-year-old when it comes to creativity through dribbling, but Akilouche ranks significantly higher as a progressive passer.
Top-quality alternatives for Savinho are few and far between, but if Spurs can tie up a deal for Akliouche , they will be landing perhaps the most similar profile to the Brazilian in European football.
