Tottenham may have ‘ideal Brennan Johnson upgrade’ amid £49.5m transfer news

Tottenham need to improve the squad depth and could land an upgrade on Brennan Johnson as a £49.5million transfer update has emerged.

Tottenham find themselves struggling in the Premier League, sitting 13th in the table, 11 points off the top six and 14 off fourth.

One of the main reasons for their underwhelming form has been the constant injury woes that Tottenham have faced.

Tottenham’s underwhelming form has mounted pressure on Ange Postecoglou and his position at the helm of the club remains under scrutiny.

Regardless of Posecoglou’s fate, Spurs need to improve their squad quality and depth if they want to avoid a disaster next season.

Tottenham could upgrade Johnson with Bournemouth ace

Tottenham splashed £50m on Johnson in 2023 hoping that he could be the next big thing at Tottenham. While his numbers have been decent, Spurs seem to be eyeing an upgrade on him and adding competition to the ranks.

According to Fichajes, the North London outfit are weighing up on a move for Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo. The Ghana international has been the cornerstone of Andoni Iraola’s team as the Cherries continue to fly high in the Premier League.

Semenyo has netted nine goals and provided five assists in 29 games this term, already surpassing his previous season’s goal and assist tally.

Fichajes shared that the 25-year-old winger has drawn interest from Spurs and the North London side know they will have to shell out £49.5m to acquire his services as Semenyo remains under contract at the Vitality stadium until 2029.

Tottenham need to reorganise their attack

Spurs have had several injury issues in their attacking department. Son Heung-min has missed games because of hamstring and thigh injuries, while strikers Dominic Solanke and Richarlison have spent spells on the sidelines because of injuries.

Even Johnson suffered a calf injury earlier which saw him miss seven games. Timo Werner is due to return to RB Leipzig at the end of the season as his loan spell comes to an end.

Tottenham need to have a versatile attacker in their ranks who can play in multiple positions. Semenyo fits the bill. The former Bristol City player is capable of playing on either flank and has delivered identical results playing on both wings.

While Semenyo is predominantly a right winger, he can operate through the left as well and could be viewed as a long term successor to Son, whose contract is due to expire in the summer of 2026.

The 25-year-old is one of the most attractive wingers in the league. If Spurs are successful in acquiring the services of Semenyo, this will be a major coup and a big step to improve the squad quality next season.
