Tottenham ‘fed up of’ Micky van de Ven as £50m transfer news emerges

Tottenham have all the reasons to be running out of patience with Micky van de Ven as he returns from another bout with injury.

Van de Ven has not played for Spurs since their 3-0 UEFA Europa League win against Elfsborg on 30 January, with the defender then entering the treatment table after picking up yet another injury.

As Ange Postecoglou brings the Dutchman back into the fold slowly, Tottenham power brokers will be concerned about his injury record since arriving in North London.

Van de Ven has missed 30 games across all competitions for the Premier League club due to fitness issues this term, while he has also struggled with a hamstring injury last season.

Tottenham interested in Dean Huijsen at Bournemouth

Tottenham have already given a signal that they might be fed up with Van de Ven and his injury record as they want to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, according to Sami Mokbel.

The journalist reported via his Daily Mail column on 6 March that several clubs have registered their interest in the centre-back with a £50million release clause, with Spurs among the suitors.

Huijsen has gained a reputation as one of the best young left-footed centre-backs since joining Bournemouth from Juventus last summer.

The 19-year-old has been so impressive that ‘elite’ clubs are queuing up to acquire services just a year after his move to Bournemouth.

Having played the full 90 minutes on 16 occasions in the Premier League this season, Huijsen will not want to settle for a place on the bench next term.

Tottenham will very much be aware of that, meaning they might be already looking towards life beyond Van de Ven.

The 23-year-old is a guaranteed starter when he is fit, but Postecoglou has learned that he cannot be relied on over the course of an entire season.

That is perhaps why Spurs are targeting a young left-sided defender like Huijsen.

Spurs face competition from Chelsea and Real Madrid

On the flip side, there are no guarantees that Tottenham will sign Huijsen despite his achievable £50m release clause.

The Spain Under-21s international is also wanted by Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Real Madrid among other clubs, with the player likely to join one of ‘continental’s elite clubs’.

Whether Postecoglou’s side are included in that category or not remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, signing a player of Huijsen’s calibre would allow Spurs to cash in on Van de Ven while his stocks are still high.
