Tottenham ‘fears come true’ after confirmed team selection decision today

Will Lankshear departed Tottenham to join West Brom on loan during the winter transfer window, but the deal wasn’t without fears that are already gaining traction.

Despite the wretched season Tottenham are enduring, Lankshear found gametime remarkably hard to come by, which ultimately forced Spurs into loaning him out, in search of senior football.

Spurs were evidently keen on securing attacking reinforcements throughout the window, completing the signing of Mathys Tel, but Lankshear was certainly deserving of an opportunity.

The 19-year-old made a switch to West Brom, which at the time appeared to be a relatively good decision given the injury to Josh Maja and the slow return of fitness for Daryl Dike.

However, a small minority of fans highlighted a few concerns before the deal was announced and they appear to be warranted after a decision made today.

Will Lankshear benched for West Brom

The main fear was whether Lankshear would receive the necessary amount of gametime, and that was prior to the arrival of Adam Armstrong, who started their clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday (8 February).

Immediately you can see where Lankshear is in terms of the pecking order and that will only reduce when Maja returns to fitness.

It begs the question as to whether Daniel Levy and the others involved in the sanctioning of his exit have made yet another dreadful decision.

Of course, only time will tell if that is to be the case, but the initial prognosis certainly makes it seem that way.

Tottenham should have utilised Will Lankshear

There is no hiding from the fact that Spurs are having a horrid season and with that in mind, there should have been room to experiment with Lankshear waiting patiently for his chance.

With it now looking like Lankshear will find himself in a similar position at The Hawthorns in terms of gametime, you just have to wonder what the thinking was.

Very few attackers, if any at all, have hit the heights expected of them this season at Tottenham, and yet Lankshear was still never afforded a real chance in the team.

Levy will be hoping Lankshear can force his way into the starting 11 at West Brom, but as it stands, it very much looks like a poor transfer decision.
