Tottenham fans will be very frustrated at Thomas Frank’s claim after Bayern Munich loss

Tottenham fans were expecting to enjoy a memorable spending spree after they qualified for the Champions League.

The team was in dire need of improvement after finishing 17th in the Premier League.

They received a huge financial injection right when they needed it by qualifying for Europe’s elite competition.

Yet, with the new Premier League season just over a week away, this transfer window is currently looking like a damp squib for Spurs.

Tottenham have failed to kick on after Kudus signing

Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso made their loan moves to Tottenham shortly after the transfer window opened. A solid enough start to the summer.

But when Mohammed Kudus arrived at the start of July, that was supposed to be the start of Spurs’ recruitment drive. The catalyst that would start the construction of a team that could thrive in the Champions League.

Yet, the highly anticipated transfer party still hasn’t started at Spurs. Tottenham’s pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White fell apart. Their only addition since the Kudus signing has been Joao Palhinha on a season-long loan.

It has now turned into a window of panic following James Maddison’s injury. All of a sudden, Tottenham find themselves short of playmakers and are desperately searching for new creative midfielders to draft in.

After the Bayern Munich friendly, Thomas Frank told The Independent that no new signings were close to being completed.

He said: “If we think we can find the right one, one who can improve the team, then he will be signed. If we can’t, then not.”

These comments will leave Tottenham fans wondering how it has come to this.

Tottenham look short of firepower as new season approaches

The loan signing of Palhinha should be a real coup for Tottenham. He’ll add a touch of quality and assuredness that their midfield lacked at times last season.

However, Spurs still look desperately short of firepower as the new season approaches.

Frank had been fighting to sign wingers like:

They haven’t got close to signing any players of this ilk. And what about their existing wingers? Son Hueng-min has been sold to LAFC while Dejan Kulusevski is injured.

Frank could realistically do with some back-up strikers to challenge Dominic Solanke as well.

He has to take his side to Udine to face Paris Saint-Germain for the UEFA Super Cup on 13 August. This will highlight how ready they are to take on Europe’s elite teams.

Tottenham are currently the sixth-highest spenders in the Premier League this summer, but Frank surely would have expected to have more of his own signings in the squad for this game. As things stand, most of his starting XI will be those who led Spurs to a 17th-place finish last season.
