Tottenham door opens to sign Mbeumo amid shock ‘private medical’ news at Brentford
Thomas Frank could yet reunite with Bryan Mbeumo at Tottenham this summer.
Mbeumo was one of the first names linked with a move to North London following the appointment of his former manager, who had made it clear that he wanted to sign a wide forward.
Spurs eventually brought in Mohammed Kudus as a deal with Brentford looked increasingly unlikely to materialise.
However, with Son Heung-min and Richarlison potentially leaving Tottenham this summer, there still could be scope to bring Mbeumo, especially following the latest developments.

Manchester United talks stall with Brentford for Mbeumo
A key factor in Spurs’ decision to withdraw from pursuing Mbeumo was Manchester United’s interest in the Cameroon international.
Ruben Amorim is keen to add the 25-year-old to his front line, and the Red Devils are willing to offer the talented attacker a more lucrative contract than Tottenham.
Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Brentford | 242 | 70 | 51 |
Troyes | 46 | 12 | 4 |
Mbeumo is keen on the move to Manchester. However, as reported by The Guardian (16 July), talks between United and Brentford have stalled.
The Bees were sure that a deal was on the verge of completion and privately believed that a medical was set for their star player.
However, much to the annoyance of INEOS, Brentford have raised their asking price to nearly £70million at the last hurdle.
Sir Jim Ractliffe believed they had settled on a lower figure, and is unwilling to be pushed any further.
With the two clubs locked in a battle, and neither seemingly willing to budge for the time being, it has opened the door for Tottenham to reignite their interest in Mbeumo.
The West London club will not want the deal to drag on, as they have their own transfer targets like Omari Hutchinson to get over the line, giving Spurs the perfect window to steal ahead in the deal.

Mbeumo still makes sense for Spurs
Tottenham’s complications with signing Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest could be the trigger for Frank to reallocate the funds back to Mbeumo.
On the surface, Kudus’ arrival seems at odds with signing the former Troyes player, but the Ghanian is very versatile and can play anywhere behind the number nine, including as an attacking midfielder.
Meanwhile, in Mbeumo, the Dane would get a player capable of playing wide right or as a second striker, as he did to great effect with Yoane Wissa last season.
The two could line up together in a multitude of ways, and would give Frank exciting and potent options as they face the added challenge of UEFA Champions League football next season.
