Brennan Johnson ‘to be thrilled’ after Thomas Frank news at Tottenham

Tottenham are set to embark on a new era after sacking Ange Postecoglou.

Despite winning the UEFA Europa League, Postecoglou was dismissed by Daniel Levy after an awful Premier League season.

That announcement was made on Friday (6 June), and Tottenham have wasted little time finding a replacement, having reached an agreement with Frank.

This is a major coup for Tottenham, with the Brentford boss having established himself as one of the Premier League’s best managers over the past few seasons.

Here, Tottenham News analyses three players who will benefit most from Frank’s arrival in N17.

Brennan Johnson

Brennan Johnson had a brilliant season, scoring 18 goals in all competitions and sealing it with the winning goal in the Europa League final.

However, the Welshman never reached his full potential under Postecoglou, struggling with inconsistency throughout his two years at the club.

The appointment of Frank could help bring out the best in Johnson, similar to how Bryan Mbeumo thrived last season.

If Frank can unlock Johnson’s talent, the winger’s quick thinking and pace could pose a serious threat in Spurs’ attack.

Archie Gray

Archie Gray enjoyed a breakthrough season at Tottenham after signing from Leeds United, filling in when injuries decimated Postecoglou’s squad.

However, when everyone was fit, Gray’s playing time decreased, and he mostly featured as a substitute.

The England Under-21 international could be one of the main players to benefit from Frank’s appointment, as he may receive more game time in his preferred midfield role.

Before moving to Tottenham, Gray was close to signing for Brentford, which demonstrates Frank’s willingness to work with the teenager.

Radu Drăgușin

Radu Drăgușin never found his footing under Postecoglou after signing for Tottenham for £25.8 million in January last year.

Drăgușin struggled particualrly to adapt to Postecoglou’s high line.

Frank’s more tactical and flexible approach could prove vital for the centre-back’s future in North London. Throughout last season, Brentford switched formations between a back four and a back five.

If Frank opts for a back three at Tottenham, Drăgușin could partner Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in the heart of the Tottenham defence.
