Thomas Frank ‘already has James Maddison 2.0’ under his nose at Tottenham
James Maddison is set to miss the majority of the new season for Tottenham.
The England star went off injured in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle (3 August), and it has been confirmed that he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in his right knee.
The Tottenham ace is expected to be out for around six to seven months, which means that Thomas Frank may have to dip into the transfer market for a replacement soon.
Spurs have been linked with the likes of Harvey Elliott, Jack Grealish and Nico Paz, but the solution may be right under Frank’s nose already.

Sarr can be the Maddison replacement for Tottenham
Sarr enjoyed his best season at Tottenham yet last time out, starring in the Premier League and the Europa League.
The Senegal international made 55 appearances in all competitions, notching six goals and three assists as Ange Postecoglou battled an injury crisis on the way to Spurs’ first trophy in 17 years.
In pre-season, Frank has given him a prominent role, and he has thrived with three goals, including a stunning long-range strike against Arsenal.
Tottenham need to think carefully before acting
Spurs have added Joao Palhinha to their midfield options after signing the Bayern Munich man on loan, so Sarr could be utilised in a more advanced role.
The Lilywhites have the 30-year-old, Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, who can all play in deeper roles, which further justifies the case for the Senegalese ace to play further forward.
While he did only notch five goal contributions in the Premier League last season, those numbers would surely increase in the number 10 role.
- Sarr scored three goals and bagged two assists in 36 league matches last season
The question that Daniel Levy and Co have to ask themselves is whether Sarr can make the step up, or they need to enter the market for a top-quality asset in the position?
It seems clear, though, from his pre-season form, that the former Metz ace can do the job while Maddison is out, and the money that they would spend on a replacement may be better utilised in other areas of the squad.
